You might call this a relaunch of sorts. Life was so different in the “before times”- you know, before Covid. We all lived through a time and space that rocked much of we took assurance in; our professional, personal, social, and spiritual lives. For me, March 17th, 2020 was a pivotal day. It was the day that an entire career that I had built over decades of honing, went away and frankly never returned.
And, it was a day of reflection and appreciation for what I accomplished through my speaking and also what it took from me. I was going to be on the road in 2020, 46 weeks, mostly over the weekends. The only exception was holidays and days I held dear. Spending half of your year in hotel rooms and airports sounds so lovely, until you let it sink in… 46 weeks of 52 not at home, being with those I care about doing the things I love.
I’m old. I’ve been doing this a long time. I took the medicine I often give others. Find a way to quiet the ego, let go of the stage I once clung on to, and live in the present. I finally found balance. I still love to speak, but I am love with the idea that I don’t need to speak.
Over the last 18 months I have been making ripples on a smaller stage, one-to-one with those who are making a difference but may need some additional mentoring. The room may not be full, but the impact is real, sustaining, and powerful. I get to mentor and influence the ones who influence the many. And let me tell you, I am humbled and honored to hold such sacred space. My work now is pastoral for the people I serve, who are fellow travelers in leadership, and
are challenged by very similar things. I love being there for them.
It’s a relaunch. Or a rebirth?
